ALLOWING CHILDREN THE CONFIDENCE TO MASTER COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY

Let’s face it.  Computers are all around us.  They are at home, in our schools, at the workplace, and even in the library.  It is vital that children receive an early introduction to the use of computers.

We select academic programs that are designed to enrich the student’s learning.  Children are given the opportunity to explore and investigate numbers, letters, colors, and shapes.   Allowing preschoolers to have limited computer time can be beneficial because it:

          · familiarizes the child with the operation of the keyboard and mouse.
          · helps introduce educational skills.
          · prepares children for future computer use.
          · increases self-esteem.
          · boosts problem-solving skills.
          · stimulates language comprehension.
          · improves manual dexterity.

Children benefit best when using computers side-by-side or when working with an adult.  Preschoolers develop cooperative problem-solving skills and have the opportunity to interact with others.  In both cases, they are able to enhance their overall learning.
